Morning Meditation

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday!
He (Moses) regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. Hebrews 11:26 (NIV)
Souls for Sale

The questions fell upon the ears of the crowd like rain on dry ground. The people stood in awe as they heard the wisdom of the young rabbi. No one ever challenged them with such provocative questions. “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” he asked the crowd. (Mark 8:36-37)
I wonder if Joseph’s brothers considered these questions as they sold Joseph into slavery for twenty shekels of silver and concocted a lie to cover their scheme. (Genesis 37:28-31)
I wonder if Delilah considered these questions as she betrayed Samson for several hundred shekels of silver.(Judges 16:4-19)
I even wonder if Judas considered these questions as he sold his friendship with Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. (Matthew 26:14-15)
The questions that the young rabbi asked echo through the caverns of time. They still hold significance for each person who either reads or hears these words.
I look deeply in a mirror and ponder on these questions as I consider the day-to-day decisions that define my character. What am I willing to exchange for material possessions?
It is good to step back and reflect on the questions asked by the young rabbi as we go through our daily routines. Taking an inventory of our priorities will help remove any self imposed pretensions of righteousness. And from that place of clear vision is where we will begin to mature as adults.
