Morning Meditation

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday!
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29-30 (NIV)

Words

“My father never had a good word to say to me or about me. He called me a good for nothing. Even now…after all these years that he’s been dead…I can still hear his voice at night…cursing at me…calling me a waste”.
These are words I have heard sung from the lips of several of my adult patients. The melody may be different, but the words carry the same theme of emotional and psychological wounds that are left open and invisible to the eyes. The results are unfortunately readily apparent: a broken spirit unable to fully accomplish their God-given life assignments.
Words can have such a lasting impact on the person’s sense of self. Jesus once said that it would be better for a person to have a large stone tied around their neck and to be thrown into the sea rather than cause children to stumble. (Mark 9:42)
The words we choose to use with our children, husbands, wives, friends, co-workers and neighbors can bring them life or death. (Proverbs 8:21)
Be mindful of this when you next engage in conversation.
Be encouraged!
