About Dr. Arty
In order to participate fully in the dialogue involved with medical care, he attended Columbia College of Columbia University, where he graduated in 1984 after completing a Pre-Medical concentration in Political Science. He graduated from S.U.N.Y. Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn in 1990. After completing an Internal Medicine Residency at Kings County Hospital, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he pursued a Fellowship in Addictive Medicine, followed by a residency in Psychiatry at the same institution. He held the position of Director of the Kings County Addictive Disease Services from 2003-2004 and subsequently took on the position of Deputy Executive Director of Kings County Hospital’s Behavioral Health Department from 2004-2008.
Dr. Arty received the Executive Director’s Award for services to the Kings County Hospital in 2004 and held the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center at Brooklyn from 2000-2008. He has received numerous other awards for his dedication to improving medical care in the East Flatbush community, including the AMS Outstanding Community Service Award from the Aesclepius Medical Society.
He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. With his broad knowledge base, he is able to provide expertise in the field of psychopharmacology to address issues such as Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and Psychosis. He currently holds the position of Clinical Medical Director of Behavioral Health and Community Services at St. Vincent’s Services, where he provides psychopharmacological treatment for adults, children, and those with Chemical Dependency.
Dr. Arty serves as an Elder at Abounding Grace Ministries on New York City’s Lower East Side. He is also an active member of the Medical Missions Team at The Brooklyn Tabernacle, and travels to other nations to provide medical and spiritual care to the underserved. He is a Board Member of World Compassion Fellowship, an international humanitarian and development organization whose mission is to provide holistic development and care for the individual, the family, and the community.
Dr. Arty is sought after to provide education about mental illness to faith-based communities. He is a published writer of several stories, including “TapTap” and “Through My Mother’s Eyes” in the Permanente Journal.
In September of 2017, Dr. Arty published a collection of 10 short stories in a book entitled Life And Death And The Things In Between. It has received positive reviews and been found to be an encouragement to many.
